Where do your local candidates stand on environmental issues?

The London Environmental Network (LEN) has prepared an election primer on the environment. We believe this primer highlights important environmental issues affecting all Londoners, and it is our hope that it provides information you can use to make your decision.

The London Environmental Network member organizations contributed questions on a variety of environmental topics relevant to their focuses. We convened a question review committee made up of six LEN member organizations who determined the final questions to ask the candidates.

We then posed 7 questions (click here to see the questions) to all major party candidates and as many alternative part candidates as we could find contact information for. Ridings covered are Elgin-Middlesex-London, London Fanshawe, London North Centre, and London West.

All candidates had two weeks to submit their responses and received two reminders. We will be updating the response pages if any of the other candidates complete the survey before the election.

Why is this election primer important?

The larger goal, of course, is to increase London voter education and engagement in environmental issues. In preparing this primer, the London Environmental Network wanted a way to ensure the issues that are important to its collective 10,000+ members, and which affect all Londoners and get better informed discussion during this election.

According to Dianne Saxe, the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, “there are no more silver bullets” when it comes to meeting emission reduction targets.[1] There are many environmental issues that the government of Ontario can address, and educating Londoners about the different party plans can help Londoners in their decision making process.

Please share this election primer widely so we can get London voters – and candidates – talking about the environment this election!
